New project with Destination Bornholm and Business Center Bornholm is to develop Bornholm's tourism industry.<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

You probably know the term \u2019the season\u2019. A word that has almost become a Bornholm concept for the time of year when the most tourists come to the island. When people say \u2019the season\u2019, permanent residents know exactly what is meant \u2013 \u2019the season\u2019 is that time of year. On Bornholm, we are well on our way to extending the season, but now the work needs to be given an extra push.
Both the duration of the tourist season, but also the understanding of it. The tourist season must be further developed as a year-round industry. This is taking place, among other things, with the project: Bornholm's tourism - all year round and across the entire island. A visionary project with Destination Bornholm as the driving force in close cooperation with Business Center Bornholm.<\/p>\n

Ambition<\/h2>\n

A project that is to build on the good, existing work - but what should the future actually look like for Bornholm's tourism industry? Pernille Kofod Lydolph, director of Destination Bornholm, answers that:
\u201dFirst of all, we hope for more visitors outside the summer period, while at the same time maintaining the number of guests on the island during the summer period. The way to achieve this is partly about business development with a special focus on our international guests, and partly about business development on an informed basis. And this applies to everyone who works with the development of Bornholm \u2013 either in their own business or on behalf of the island,\u201d and she adds:
\u201dLast but not least, we must at the same time get better at bringing a larger part of the island into play, so that we help guests discover all the fantastic things we have to offer, of which many only discover a fraction.\u201d<\/p>\n

Good business sense<\/h2>\n

Bornholm's business community already has a firm grip, which is also being noticed elsewhere.
\u201dFirst and foremost, we are really good at collaborating on the island. And to such an extent that together we create results that make many others look towards us. Most recently, V\u00e4rmland in Sweden and Destination SydkystDanmark in Zealand have been in touch with us on Bornholm to learn from our joint work. They note that we increasingly have visitors spread across a large part of the year, and want to learn from our experiences,\u201d explains Pernille Kofod Lydolph.
That does not mean, however, that it is time to rest on one's laurels:
\u201dWe can certainly become even better merchants, but that requires insight and knowledge about where the guests are, when they visit and when we can expect them to arrive, and who they are. New data sources such as weather data, telecom data, revenue data, etc., must give us insight into expectations for the coming weeks and months, so that we can ensure the guests a great experience while also boosting revenue and earnings. That is some of what we will be working on in the project, and where, in collaboration with Business Center Bornholm, we will help provide the figures and together ensure that we interpret the figures correctly \u2013 and otherwise get used to using them, she says.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Planning<\/h2>\n

Hard work and strong intentions do not bear fruit in themselves; these are also objectives that one encounters elsewhere in the country, but the fact that there is now a readymade plan for Bornholm makes a difference, explains Pernille Kofod Lydolph:<\/p>\n

\u201dAlongside business development, it is naturally important that we also work with our land areas. And that through this we ensure that potential investors who want to invest in the island can see that we have laid out a plan. Then they can assess more quickly whether they want to come on board with Bornholm's development. If they have to wait for several years to be allowed to invest their money, the probability of them finding other places to spend their money is high. Business development and master plans for the island are therefore two initiatives that go hand in hand.\u201d<\/p>\n

The second implementation partner in the project is Business Center Bornholm. Here, the Head of Business at Business Center Bornholm, Christa Lodahl, looks forward to helping roll out the project.<\/p>\n

\u201dThe project plan is detailed and ambitious for the tourism industry and extends up to 2030. We must now get started on initiatives and actions that enable us as an island to realise the plan and work towards spreading tourism to the whole island and throughout the year. The plan is important, but it is at least as important that we initiate measures that ensure we succeed with the plan,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Development<\/h2>\n

That tourism can be developed is evidenced by the last ten years. Here, the number of annual overnight stays has increased from 1.2 million to 1.8 million. Turnover has kept pace. From a total tourism-related annual turnover for the whole island of 1.2 billion kroner to 3.0 billion kroner.<\/p>\n

So the project is not only about getting more tourists to experience how wonderful Bornholm is even when the calendar doesn't rhyme with swimming trunks and cold ice cream, but also about creating more jobs and increased revenue.<\/p>\n

\u201dYou cannot do that by thinking more of the same. We know, after all, that there are towns that tourists seek out on their own, which is why the development plan has special geographical focus areas, with towns such as Hasle, \u00c5kirkeby, Nex\u00f8, and the central part of the island as focus areas, says Christa Lodahl.<\/p>\n

The collaboration with Destination Bornholm is very much about knowledge sharing and ensuring that we work with overarching initiatives, but also with individual businesses and their development, which is precisely the role of Business Center Bornholm.<\/p>\n

\u201dWe need to work with the relevant businesses and together clarify the businesses\u201d potentials and opportunities, and draw up action plans with goals and sub-goals that make it straightforward for the businesses to execute on the goals. Each individual business is unique, and therefore the trajectories will also be individually tailored, taking all our knowledge and experience from the project \u201dRestart Business at Street Level\" over into this project.<\/p>\n

We have an expectation of working towards businesses having a greater understanding of tourism flows, where Destination Bornholm collects a lot of useful data which is valuable knowledge when working with your own business. It can be something very down-to-earth, like a caf\u00e9 that closes at 5 pm, but the data shows that there are many tourists in the local area from 6 pm to 8 pm. Destination Bornholm has that kind of data, but we must ensure to an even greater extent that individual businesses also use data in the way they develop their business. Therefore, they are a key partner for us in that development process, she says.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

\"Christa<\/span><\/div><\/div>

I am really pleased that Bornholm Regional Municipality has said yes to our application, so that we can raise the bar even higher and strengthen the many businesses that depend on tourism \u2013 either directly or indirectly. We look forward to continuing to work together with BCB on the financing so that we can hopefully get the work underway in the middle of 2023.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

GET CLOSE TO PROJECT: BORNHOLM'S TOURISM \u2013 ALL YEAR ROUND AND ACROSS THE WHOLE ISLAND<\/h2>\n

Purpose:<\/strong><\/p>\n

A new 3-year project, \u201cBornholm's tourism \u2013 all year round and across the entire island\u201d, aims to implement and follow up on a number of the initiatives recommended in a previous project, \u00bbDevelopment plan for tourism on Bornholm towards the year 2030\u00ab.
The primary focus is to bring the whole island into play during the summer, as well as to increase the number of guests in the spring, autumn and winter months.<\/p>\n

Focus<\/strong><\/p>\n

1) Networking and organisation of actors<\/h3>\n

Outdoor<\/strong><\/p>\n

Work will be undertaken with actors from the \u2019Outdoor\u2019 stronghold, understood as all companies and organisations that arrange activities in nature, divided into \u2019green\u2019 (on land) and \u2019blue\u2019 (by\/on water) initiatives respectively.<\/p>\n

Geographical focus areas<\/strong><\/p>\n

Networking and collaborations in the three designated geographical focus areas from the Development Plan:
In Hasle, the starting point for urban development work is the town and port's industrial history, alongside a focus on contemporary crafts and the establishment of more amenities for tourists in the harbour area.<\/p>\n

In Nex\u00f8, where urban development is in full swing, an organisation bringing together the residents' association, business association and local stakeholders around activities that can implement the recommendations of the development plan, particularly for the harbour area, will be established.<\/p>\n

In Aakirkeby, the goal is to make the town a centre for outdoor communication \u2013 while simultaneously strengthening the interaction between the outdoor project The Green Wave and green outdoor activities.<\/p>\n

Business development<\/h3>\n

Through workshops, expert-mentor programmes and personally tailored programmes involving one-to-one development sparring, each participating company is supported in learning to achieve its own goals and thereby also the goals in the development
