Sorting waste is still causing headaches in the island's workplaces

Although waste sorting in the workplace has actually been on the agenda for several years, many businesses still struggle to make it work practically and efficiently in daily life.
According to Christa Lodahl, head of business at Business Center Bornholm, it is not the will that is lacking, but rather guidance that is easy to understand and apply in a busy daily life.
"We hear from several companies that they are actually well underway, but are still in doubt as to whether they are doing it right. For some, it is about gaining clarity on the rules, while others are looking for practical solutions that fit their physical framework and workflows," she says.

Inspections should be seen as a help
Bornholm Regional Municipality also finds that businesses are often uncertain about what waste inspection involves. Many are worried about doing something wrong, even though their intentions are good.
Mikkel Høst, who works with inspection at BRK, emphasises that the inspection is largely about dialogue.
"We see ourselves as partners rather than inspectors. Most businesses want to do the right thing, but lack answers on how the rules should be interpreted in their daily operations. That is why we place great emphasis on having a good dialogue during the inspection, where there is also room for questions and clarification," he explains.

Local businesses lead the way
Several companies have already made great progress with their sorting and can serve as good examples for others. Coop Kvickly in Rønne and Pension Slægtsgården in Allinge have both worked actively to find solutions that work in practice.
Christa Lodahl believes that local roots are crucial when it comes to inspiration.
"It provides something quite special when businesses on Bornholm share their experiences. It makes it easier for others to see how they can get on with the challenges they are facing," she says.
The ‘Go-Home’ meeting is open to questions and discussion
Following requests from the local business community, Business Center Bornholm is inviting people to an after-work meeting on 3 June. Both BOFA and BRK will be attending, and there will be an opportunity to get answers to both prepared and spontaneous questions.
The event takes place in BRK’s assembly hall on Snorrebakken and participation is free of charge. Following the official programme, there will be an opportunity for an informal chat with both supervisory staff and BOFA.
