Get ready for collaboration with DTU and other universities
Students and researchers from DTU and other universities are ready to collaborate with Bornholm-based businesses.
DTU - in collaboration with municipalities, businesses and the country's other universities - wants to establish a number of residential colleges as a basis for creating closer cooperation between universities and businesses. This will happen through, for example, student projects, internships, master's projects and PhD programmes.
As part of the National Centre for Green Energy project within Baltic Energy Island, work is now underway towards establishing a Residential College on Bornholm. In this first phase, the purpose includes connecting students and researchers with business projects within areas such as the green transition, data and digitalisation. As an initiative to foster this innovative collaboration on Bornholm, we hosted the first after-work meeting for Bornholm businesses in collaboration with DTU on Wednesday 23 November 2022. Here, 25 representatives from local businesses gathered to gain insight from existing experience in the field, including potential challenges when collaborating with students.

Experience from both local and national companies
DTU collaborates with SMEs throughout Denmark and shared their knowledge, facts and experience on what and how businesses can specifically expect from a collaboration between students, researchers and these very local businesses.
Experiences from several national and local business cases were shared, and the participating companies experienced an interesting panel discussion where we found that even with only 2 employees, there is still great value to be gained from students and university projects.
The students are already on their way
Several students from Aalborg University, the University of Southern Denmark and DTU will be coming to the island over the next few months, which means that Bornholm businesses already have great opportunities to establish closer cooperation with competent students from DTU and other universities. The students will either participate in courses focusing on renewable energy systems or innovative energy solutions that can be applied broadly. The course concludes with an examination project carried out in cooperation with the individual business. Other opportunities for cooperation include bachelor's or master's theses, or having a Bachelor of Engineering student undertake a 3 to 4-month work placement on the island. The opportunities for businesses are numerous, and we hope to connect as many businesses as possible with the students.
