Bornholm is for good holidaymakers and the Baltic Sea's local pearl. But the island is not only beautiful nature and world-class beaches. We are also a strong business community with companies operating in the international market. From startups to family businesses, they all play a vital role in Bornholm's development and economy.

We must maintain that momentum.

It is therefore important that we continue to work to create the best conditions for the business community and thereby make it attractive to do business on the island and create the foundations for new enterprises.

The island's exporting companies, ranging widely from food production to advanced technology and crafts, have put Bornholm on the world map by reaching markets from South America to Japan. At the same time, they help to demonstrate the island's versatility and innovative strength on the international stage.

To ensure the continued success of exports from Bornholm, infrastructure plays a central role. Efficient transport to and from Bornholm, including ferry routes, flight connections and digital networks, is crucial for Bornholm products to reach international markets on time and at a competitive price. Good infrastructure is also essential for attracting and retaining skilled labour, a necessity for running innovative and competitive businesses.

Export is especially vital for a place like Bornholm, where the local market is limited by the island's geographical size and population. By exporting Bornholm goods and services, economic activity is expanded, and job opportunities are created that would not otherwise exist on an island with only a small domestic economy. International trade also brings new ideas and technologies back to Bornholm, which can benefit our local production and contribute to increased innovative capacity within businesses.

Local businesses with an international focus have already helped to put Bornholm on the world map with their products and services. These act as ambassadors and strengthen the island's global reputation. However, as an export business, it is also important not only to look outwards, but also to contribute inwards. By engaging with the local community and taking an active part in the island's life, they strengthen not only the local economy, but also the community that supports them.

Bornholm’s business community both enriches our local society and builds bridges to the rest of the world. Therefore, it is a great pleasure to wish you an enjoyable read of this publication about Bornholm and its connections to the wider world.
