The latest edition of the business magazine is out

Dear reader

What does it mean to create and run a successful business? Is it about hiring more employees, increasing turnover, and conquering new markets? Or is it just as much about creating a healthy company where employees thrive and there is room to develop in the direction you want? There is no one answer. And maybe that is precisely one of the strengths of the business life in Bornholm.

Karen Bladt, Chairman of Bornholm's Business Council and Business Center Bornholm

Development doesn’t necessarily only involve getting bigger. It also involves becoming better at what you do. It takes courage to take risks and invest. It takes at least as much to choose something, pass on responsibility, or change direction.

Something that characterizes the business life in Bornholm is precisely the diversity. Here we find both small owner-run companies, ambitious entrepreneurs, and specialized industrial companies that compete on international markets. They have different starting points and ambitions, but what is common to many of them is the willingness to develop and the courage to make the decisions that are necessary. Precisely this diversity is a strength for Bornholm. We need both the companies that create new jobs and markets, and those that strengthen the business they have already built.

For development doesn’t necessarily only mean getting bigger. It also means becoming better at what you do. It takes courage to take risks and invest. It takes at least as much to choose something, pass on responsibility, or change course. The crucial thing is that the company develops in a way that creates value and makes it stronger in the long run.

As chairman of Business Center Bornholm, I am pleased to see the drive and ambition that exists among the island’s businesses. We need ambition on behalf of the business community on Bornholm. We need companies that dare to invest, develop, and seize new opportunities. But we must also recognize that success does not look the same for everyone, and that development must be based on the individual company’s opportunities and ambitions. This is precisely the combination that helps create a strong and viable business community.

And here on Bornholm we have something special to build on. We have strong professional skills, a long tradition of entrepreneurship, and an entrepreneurial community where collaboration and relationships often play a crucial role. These are qualities that we must protect and continue to develop.

In this edition of the business magazine, you meet companies and people who, in their own ways, have seized opportunities, overcome challenges, and made choices that have helped shape their path forward. I hope that the stories can inspire you to look at your own business with new eyes. Perhaps to seize an opportunity you have long considered. Perhaps to ask questions about something you usually do. Or perhaps simply to be confirmed in the belief that there are many paths to creating a successful business.

Happy reading.
