Bornhemian businesses are currently busy investigating business opportunities in connection with the construction of the Energy Island through the project "Strengthened SMEs"

"Through a range of professional groups, we are trying to work our way into the tasks that need to be solved when a project as large as the Energy Island is to be built on Bornholm,"says Lone Reppien Thomsen, project manager at Offshore Center Bornholm (OCB), and continues:"We have already met in two of the four groups we plan to set up. They include a group for logistics and warehousing, one for construction and buildings, one for skills and housing, and one for service tasks."

"We are trying to anticipate the challenges that only Bornholm's business community, with its local knowledge, will be able to identify. We are investigating needs and opportunities and also aiming to minimise risks through insight into the task. Bornholm-based companies will be able to tender when the main contractor has been found, and subcontractors will be needed. There will always be a need for local knowledge to solve many tasks."

Business Consultant Jørn Pedersen from Business Center Bornholm (BCB) adds: "In the Strengthened SMEs project, it is also possible for companies to apply for individual pathways through BCB. These pathways help companies prepare for the tasks that may arise in connection with the Energy Island construction."

"Therefore, Lone and I visited Revsing in June, where Energinet has built a transformer station for the Viking Link connection; the facility is operational, but work is now underway on the green landscaping around the buildings.,"says Jørn Pedersen."Here we got an impression of what we are talking about, and not least, how much is being done for safety. It was a really good experience, where Jesper Hye Skovmose, Site Manager, showed us around."

In the project there is close cooperation with Energinet and with Baltic Energy Island, which is responsible for business visits and delegations. Energinet is currently carrying out tenders for cables and the converter station on Bornholm. Before the contracts can be signed, the Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities must give an updated approval of the project.
