New platform makes it easier for Bornholm businesses to choose locally when employees are to be treated to corporate Christmas gifts.

New local alternative

A new opportunity is on the way for companies that want to treat their employees to Christmas gifts – while simultaneously supporting local businesses. Behind the platform is Jess Hoffmeyer Nielsen, owner of Borngros, who through the webshop BornholmBornholmBornholm.dk is now offering a corporate Christmas gift solution. Via the webshop, companies can order Christmas gifts for their staff, who then log in with a personal code and choose the gift they want – from a selection of Bornholm products and experiences.

”We have made it easy and attractive for companies to offer quality products from Bornholm, so that each employee can choose a gift that suits their exact taste,” says Jess Hoffmeyer Nielsen.

“Many businesses use nationwide Christmas present platforms where employees choose their own gift. That got us thinking – why not do it locally? Here on the island, we have so many strong producers and experiences that can easily match both quality and variety,” says Christa Lodahl, Head of Business at Business Center Bornholm, who has been involved in matching suppliers and concept development.

Test year in 2025

The initiative is running a pilot test this year with a limited product range and selected companies.

“We are starting with a few companies and a narrow assortment. This allows us to ensure a good user experience and a stable platform. The ambition is to scale up with more suppliers and participating companies next year,” says Jess Hoffmeyer Nielsen.

Local businesses show their support

Among the first test companies this year is Bornholms Energi og Forsyning, which has previously used one of the nationwide corporate Christmas gift solutions.

”We have chosen to switch to a local supplier because, by giving a Bornholm Christmas present, we are supporting what we believe in. Namely, that together we can make a positive difference for Bornholm,” says Jonas Krøier Hansen, Chief Financial Officer at BEOF. ”Everything comes together for us when we can present our employees with a high-quality gift that supports our local enthusiasts - both those behind the Christmas gift portal, but also the Bornholm companies that supply the gifts. The local initiative helps to both create life here on the island and reduce our climate footprint as regards the locally produced goods and experiences. So that is enough to put you right in the Christmas spirit.”

Borntek has also chosen to back the initiative.

”We think it makes very good sense to buy locally when we can. It's about being able to offer quality, but also about supporting our local producers, restaurants, and experience providers,” says Casper Poulsen, owner of Borntek.

In 2026, it is expected that the platform will open up to more businesses, and that the product range will be expanded with even more local products and experiences.
