Bornholms Elektromotor is moving from familiar premises on Rønne Harbour, but is expanding within equipment rental for offshore clients.

The move is well under way at Bornholms Elektromotor. The company is relocating from its familiar surroundings at Rønne Harbour to new premises on Lillevangvej in Rønne, where doors will open by 30 July at the latest. In addition, a branch is opening on Skansevej in Rønne, which will house equipment hire, including for offshore customers. It is precisely this development in hire equipment that prompted Martin Ransted to apply for capital investment funds in the project; Ready for Energy Island Bornholm - and which has now returned with a positive response to the application.
”We see a business opportunity in hiring out more equipment to customers at the port and have therefore applied for funding for a generator that is larger than the ones we currently hire out. And the newer models are also more environmentally friendly than the older ones, which fits well with the port's green focus. Finally, we can see in our crystal ball that a large number of capital assets will be coming to Bornholm in the coming years, so we believe it is a good time to expand, says Martin Ransted, who is therefore also very pleased with the funding opportunities provided by initiatives such as Ready for Energy Island Bornholm. ”I helped start up Offshore Center Bornholm and can see the strong and interdisciplinary collaboration between, for example, Offshore Center Bornholm, Business Center Bornholm, Campus Bornholm and Job, Education and Recruitment (BRK), which businesses like mine benefit from,” emphasises Martin Ransted.
Allan Funch Kofod, Project Manager for the ”Ready for Energiø Bornholm” project, is delighted that yet another business on Bornholm has taken advantage of the installation grants made available by the project. Allan Funch Kofod explains: “As part of the project, we have secured funding for local businesses, and it makes perfect sense that these funds help to minimise some of the risk that businesses are taking in pioneering the ‘Energy Island’ initiative, whilst enabling them to capitalise on the upcoming business opportunities. The fund has not yet been exhausted, but if you’d like to know more, we recommend contacting BCB, where consultant Jørn Pedersen is well versed in the practical aspects of the application process.” There are still funds available in the scheme that can cover 50% of the construction costs.
Bornholms Elektromotor has secured a slice of the offshore pie on Bornholm. ”In general, we benefit from the activity at the harbour, and the captains also tell us that they dock in Bornholm because of the good service they receive and, not least, the fact that they can change personnel here at the same time. It is quite unique that the airport has many departures to Copenhagen and is located just 7 minutes from the quayside,” says Martin Ransted. Bornholms Elektromotor has built up a customer base when ships have been docked in Bornholm in connection with offshore activity or harbour expansion. In addition to renting out equipment for the offshore site, they have also had other tasks related to the offshore projects, such as testing and safety checks of equipment.
Martin Ransted is very positive about the development opportunities on Bornholm - but we have to seize them ourselves, Martin emphasises.
