How well prepared are businesses on Bornholm for crises?
The power cut that hit large parts of Bornholm on 21 January became a concrete reminder for many businesses of how quickly operations can be affected by unforeseen events. Although the power returned relatively quickly, the episode raised an important question: how well prepared are local businesses really for crises?
On 23 March, Business Center Bornholm will focus on precisely that question in an upcoming webinar on crisis preparedness for businesses on Bornholm.
”The power outage in January clearly showed how vulnerable a modern society can be – including for businesses. Many got through it fine, but the incident reminded us how important it is to have thought through your plan B,” says Christa Lodahl, Head of Business at Business Center Bornholm.
A strong crisis management capability can be the difference between moving on quickly or, in the worst-case scenario, experiencing prolonged operational disruptions and heavy losses. At the same time, the process of risk assessment can provide businesses with a better overview of their organisation and also open up new opportunities for development.
When the world becomes more unpredictable
The world around us is changing rapidly. Global conflicts, new tariffs, unstable supply chains and rising uncertainty are affecting both small and large businesses.

”You cannot plan for the crisis – but you can plan your reaction,” says Trine Wenck von Wenckheim, presenter at the webinar and crisis preparedness expert with more than 25 years of experience from international technology and manufacturing companies, where she has worked on building robust and reliable organisations.
At the webinar, Trine Wenck von Wenckheim provides an insight into what crisis management is and how companies can work concretely to identify and protect their greatest vulnerabilities. Participants will, among other things, be given concrete tools to work with the company's risks, the opportunity to ask questions and get answers to their own challenges, as well as an overview of how to build a solid contingency plan.
Louise Lyng Bojesen, Head of Emergency Management and Environment at the Municipality of Bornholm, also provides an insight into the initial thoughts behind the total defence concept that is currently under development. In addition, she will talk about how the municipality works with emergency management, as well as the expectations for businesses' own efforts and preparation in the time ahead.
