Postgraduate students from Aalborg and University of Southern Denmark visiting
International students from AAU/SDU are on Bornholm to look at the challenges of the green transition.
24 postgraduate students from AAU/SDU are visiting companies on Bornholm. They come from a joint international master's programme between Aalborg University (AAU) and the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) and consist of students from several nationalities, such as: Italy, Spain, Greece, Croatia, Slovakia, England, Ireland, Germany and Denmark.
They are studying areas such as international economics, marketing, sociology, management, biology, geology, and agricultural science, and will be looking at local challenges and issues on Bornholm concerning green energy and, in particular, the transition to biogas.
The collaboration between the students arose in connection with the National Centre for Green Energy's innovation track "Utilisation of biogas on Bornholm", which was held in September 2022. Professor Jens Bo Holm-Nielsen from AAU took part in the workshop, which sparked the universities' interest.
Baltic Energy Island is showing around
Søren Møller Christensen, Director of Baltic Energy Island, is showing the students around the Power Station in Rønne. It is to function as a hub for future projects and form the physical headquarters for Baltic Energy Island and, among other things, support future work between university students and projects on Bornholm.
The locals give the students a warm welcome
Besides the Power Station in Rønne, the students have also visited Bigadan, Danish Crown, JENSEN Group, Hasle Refractories and The Royal Academy to look at the opportunities for green transition and solutions regarding biogas on Bornholm. The students also focus on sustainable development within the environment, and this project is therefore also entitled "Renewable and sustainable energy systems", and the students will subsequently present their cases to the companies they have looked at more closely.
More students are on the way
Several students from, amongst others, DTU are coming to the island within the next few months and therefore Bornholm businesses already now have great opportunities to establish closer cooperation with competent students and the universities.
Students can participate in courses within renewable energy systems or innovative energy solutions, culminating in an exam project in collaboration with the individual company. However, there are also other opportunities for collaboration, such as bachelor's or master's projects, or a BEng student on a 3 to 4-month internship on the island. The opportunities for companies are numerous, and we hope to connect as many companies as possible with the students.
