Sparring and the Business Programme have helped Johannes Dam & Søn A/S with development and export

Exciting company visit to Johannes Dam & Søn with Erhvervshus Hovedstaden, the mayor and the chairman of EBBU demonstrated the value of business-targeted initiatives.
Six generations have built the business
Johannes Dam & Søn A/S has been baking since 1855. Six generations have now been making bread, biscuits and cakes. Today, the famous Bornholm rye biscuits are the core of the business, and they are popular not only in Denmark but also with customers in countries such as Sweden and Norway, who are absolutely mad about them. So much so that exports now account for around 20% of turnover.

"At Business Center Bornholm, it means a lot to us that we can support Bornholm-based businesses through dialogue and guidance – and that we can help uncover opportunities within the companies. In this way, we can also help refer to various funding opportunities, such as the Business Programme (Virksomhedsprogrammet), and thereby secure financing for new initiatives that can help strengthen our local business community, both for the individual company and for the benefit of us all."
Clarification of effect
The visit was arranged by Erhvervshus Hovedstaden and Business Center Bornholm to show how the combination of business guidance and funding opportunities can help companies with transition and growth.
On the visit to Johannes Dam & Søn A/S were Jacob Trøst, Regional Mayor of Bornholm; Linda Persson, Chair of the Business, Housing and Employment Committee; Katrine Paaby Joensen, Director of Erhvervshus Hovedstaden; Christa Lodahl, Head of the Erhvervshus Hovedstaden branch on Bornholm; Ebbe Mølsted-Møller, Senior Business Developer at Erhvervshus Hovedstaden; and of course Jacob Dam, Director of Johannes Dam & Søn A/S.
Sparring and support options help development
The guests were taken on a tour of the entire company, where they saw how the combination of technology and skilled employees ensured high quality in production.
Along the way, Jacob Dam talked about the guidance he has received over the years from the business hub and Business Center Bornholm, including on export and the green transition. He highlighted the grants the company has received through SMV:Eksport, SMV:Grøn and SMV:Digitalisering, all of which are part of the Business Programme (link), which have helped to further boost growth and ensured that the export adventure continues.
At Business Center Bornholm, it is very important to us that we can support Bornholm-based businesses through sparring and guidance – and that we can help uncover opportunities within the companies, says Head of Business Christa Lodahl. In this way, we can also help refer to the various support options, such as the Business Programme (Virksomhedsprogrammet), and thereby secure funding for new initiatives that can help strengthen our local business community, both for the individual company and to the benefit of us all, she continues. The fact that we also have Ebbe Mølsted-Møller, who is our local Greater Copenhagen Business Hub (Erhvervshus Hovedstaden) business developer, means that we can help them through the application process in the best possible way, Christa Lodahl concludes.
New markets await
At Johannes Dam & Søn A/S, the ambition is to enter the Canadian and Chinese markets, building on the support they have received through SMV:Eksport. We are very much looking forward to following their progress and continuing to do our part to support the company.
