Over the past 10 years, Tilflytterservice Bornholm has advised over 4,300 people who have since moved to the island.

On 1st February 2026, Tilflytterservice Bornholm marks its 10th anniversary. Since its launch in 2016, the service has helped people considering a life on Bornholm to navigate jobs, housing and everyday life – and make the move more manageable and secure.

Tilflytterservice Bornholm was established on the initiative of Bornholms Brand, which brought together local Bornholm businesses and secured support from the former Growth Forum to launch the initiative. Even back then, the challenges were clear: Bornholm was experiencing out-migration while many businesses lacked qualified labour. After two years, Tilflytterservice was continued as a public-private partnership between Bornholm businesses and the Municipality of Bornholm.

Over the past 10 years, Tilflytterservice Bornholm has advised over 4,300 people who have since moved to the island. This includes both adults and children, ranging from families and students to commuters and international newcomers. This influx of residents makes a tangible difference in local communities – for workplaces, club life and everyday life on Bornholm.

Bornholm Newcomers' Service is anchored in Business Center Bornholm and works closely with Bornholm Regional Municipality and local businesses.

Security in a major life decision

The newcomer service offers free and impartial advice designed to make the complex moving process more manageable, and equips new arrivals for the natural transition that moving to an island in the Baltic Sea entails.

“Moving is a major decision – often a life-changing one. Our job is to give newcomers an overview, honest answers and concrete opportunities so they can take the next step with greater peace of mind. The fact that so many have used our services over the past 10 years shows that there is a clear need, and that Bornholm continues to be an attractive place to live,” says newcomer consultant Rune Holm.

Important piece in Bornholm's growth

Bornholm Newcomer Service regularly meets potential newcomers through personal consultations, information meetings and fairs – including in Copenhagen, Southern Sweden, Europe and the rest of Denmark.

“Newcomers are crucial for Bornholm. It is about both qualified labour for our businesses and maintaining life and dynamism in local communities. Therefore, it is important that new residents of Bornholm are welcomed warmly and quickly feel at home. As chairman of the steering committee, I am delighted that this unique public-private partnership is now celebrating its 10th anniversary – and stands strong with a talented team that every day helps new Bornholmers settle in well,” says Benjamin Schou, chairman of the steering committee behind Tilflytterservice Bornholm and local branch manager at Nykredit Rønne.
